17. Leviticus: Cancelled by God?

Did God cancel Leviticus and its archaic and unjust laws?

We look at Isaiah 56 and a conservative Bible commentary. The results are surprising.

Three Scriptures used in this episode:

· Isaiah 56: 4-5 (ESV)

· Leviticus 18: 22 (ESV)

· Leviticus 21: 18-20 (NIV)

Quoted in this Episode:

The Enduring Word Commentary by David Guzik

About Isaiah 56: 4-5The Enduring Word Commentary says:

“This also PROPHESIES THE PASSING OF THE DOMINANCE OF THE LEVITICAL ORDER.

“Clearly, giving eunuchs a place and a name in God’s house CONTRADICTED the command of LEVITICUS 21:17-20. BUT UNDER A COMING NEW COVENANT, THERE IS A HIGHER PRINCIPLE AT WORK THAN THE SHADOWS OF THE LEVITICAL LAW.”

Leviticus is describing who is EXCLUDED from the PRIESTHOOD Leviticus 21: 18-20

“No man who has any DEFECT may come near: no man who is BLIND or LAME, DISFIGURED or DEFORMED; no man with a CRIPPLED FOOT or hand, or who is a HUNCHBACK or a DWARF, or who has any EYE DEFECT, or who has festering or RUNNING SORES or DAMAGED TESTICLES.”
